I'm Feeling Blue Today,
crisply cold, and sepia tinged with golds and copper, with touches of burnt-orange and a glittering yellow. That's because it's the first really frigid fall morning here in Greensboro, North Carolina. Every single morning inspires thoughts in a diferent color pallette, as I think in colors, as well as words. As I walk I am conscious of the hues and shades around me, the contrasts of muted and vibrant shadings. I don't create images in my quilts but rather moods and tones. Viewing a finished quilt ifor me s like listening to music: some make me want to cry, some make me want to dance, or paint, or remember, not because of a picture in front of me but because of the feelings evoked by the combinations of colors and the unique patterns within the varying pieces of cloth.
Like every fabri-holic, I just love handling fabrics, looking at their aesthetics, feeling the canvas of the cloth, even before I begin to create a quilt. I'm like a painter who substitues a needle for a brush.
Quilts, for me, must be inspired, even when they are functional. Have you seen the exhibit of the Quilts of Gee's Bend?
